Agence France Presse reported on February 1 that France and Italy recently signed an agreement to build a high-speed railway connecting Lyon, France, and Turin, Italy. This will be by far the largest high-speed railway project in Europe. The project is expected to be completed in 2023, including a 57 kilometer long tunnel through the Alps. After the completion of the railway, the travel time from Lyon, France to Turin, Italy will be shortened from the current 7 hours to 4 hours. The project has a budget of 8.5 billion euros and is jointly undertaken by France, Italy and the European Union
