France promises to bid farewell to coal-fired power in 2021 - only one coal-fired power plant is in operation
French President macron said at the Davos Forum a few days ago that France is committed to becoming an important model for coping with climate change and promised to shut down all coal-fired power plants in 2021. He also stressed the importance of innovative economic benefits and believed that there was no contradiction between improving productivity and coping with climate change
former French President Hollande once proposed to close all domestic coal-fired power plants by 2023. Macron's latest commitment was two years ahead of the previous government and one year earlier than 2022 proposed by the French Ministry of ecology last year
in July last year, the French Ministry of ecology announced a five-year environmental protection plan to deal with climate change, including giving up coal-fired power in 2022, no more projects in 2040, the sale of fuel vehicles is expected to take 10 months during the construction period, halving energy consumption by 2050, and significantly reducing dependence on nuclear power
compared with other goals, giving up coal-fired power seems to be the easiest to achieve, because currently there is only one coal-fired power plant in France - cordemais, with an annual coal demand of 1.3 million to 2 million tons, from South Africa, Poland, the United States and Australia. The installed capacity of the power station is 3000 MW, accounting for only 2.3% of the total installed capacity in France. Therefore, the measurement results are accurate. As long as the koldemay power plant stops running, France will have no coal power at all
according to the latest data of EDF, by June 2017, the total installed power generation capacity in France was 130859 MW, of which nuclear power accounted for 48.2%, oil accounted for 5.1%, natural gas accounted for 8.9%, hydropower accounted for 19.3%, and wind. However, most industry insiders are still not optimistic about the future. Electricity accounted for 9.4%, solar energy accounted for 5.3%, coal power accounted for 2.3%, and biomass accounted for 1.5%
Reuters quoted French Minister of ecology Nicolas ˙ Yu Luo said that in order to implement the commitments of the Paris Agreement, we will adjust the low-carbon strategy and strengthen supervision in the transportation, housing and forestry industries. He said that France was the main advocate of the Paris Agreement, but its carbon dioxide emissions were 3.6 percentage points higher than the planned 447 million tons. The government will revise the low-carbon strategy as soon as possible, so as to speed up the process of energy transformation in France
since taking office, macron has been committed to making France a "climate leader". In June 2017, after the U.S. government announced its withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, macron said at the G20 summit that it would further promote the implementation of the Paris Agreement, especially to find specific ways to finance climate action; At the climate conference in February, when all standards will be issued before the June 1 deadline set by the State Council, macron once again warned of the urgency of climate change and called on the international community to accelerate action and take concrete measures to implement the Paris Agreement; During his visit to China in January 2018, macron said that China and France should unite for the "future of the world" and "declare war" on climate change
